Terms and Conditions
1. Organiser and scope
1.1 These General Terms and Conditions of Participation ("Terms") govern the Student Photo Competition ("Opiskelijakuvakisa" / "Competition") and any other in-app event, sweepstake or competition run by The Jodel Venture GmbH, Wilhelmstraße 118, 10963 Berlin, Germany, commercial register Berlin HRB 157037 B ("Jodel"), for the period stated on this page.
1.2 Participation is free of charge. Entering does not require any purchase, subscription (e.g. Jodel+) or in-app purchase.
1.3 The Jodel Terms of Service ("ToS") and Community Guidelines apply to all entries and votes.
2. Eligibility
2.1 Eligible are natural persons who are at least 18 years old, reside in Finland and use Jodel.
2.2 Not eligible are employees of Jodel, persons involved in planning or running the Competition, and persons living in the same household as them.
2.3 Jodel does not verify student status. However, a prize can only be awarded to an eligible student association (section 9).
2.4 The participating organization must be an established student organization, registered association, or other student community officially recognized by a higher education institution or student union.
3. Competition period
3.1 Entries can be submitted from 8 October 2026 until 2 November 2026, 23:59 Finnish time.
3.2 The final vote runs from 3 November 2026 until 9 November 2026, 23:59 Finnish time.
3.3 Entries and votes received outside these periods are not taken into account.
4. How to enter
4.1 To enter, reply to the Competition post in the @Students channel with one photo and state (in the photo caption) the event or place and the student organization (ainejärjestö) the entry is for.
4.2 Each user may submit one entry. If a user submits more than one, only the first one counts. Using multiple accounts is prohibited (section 11).
5. Photo requirements
5.1 The photo must be taken with the Jodel in-app camera during the entry period. Photos from the gallery, screenshots and photos of screens are not allowed.
5.2 The photo must relate to student life, for example student parties, sitsit, events, campus details or the association's clubroom.
5.3 The photo must be taken by the entrant, and the entrant must hold all rights in it.
5.4 The entrant must obtain the express consent of every person who is recognisable in the photo, or blur recognisable faces (section 4.2 ToS). The entrant is solely responsible for this.
5.5 Jodel's Community Guidelines apply. Entries must not contain illegal content, nudity, or content that humiliates or endangers others.
6. Rights of third parties
6.1 Anyone who is recognizable in an entry and does not want to appear in it can ask Jodel to remove it via the report function or Jodel support in the app. Jodel will remove the entry without undue delay. A removed entry is no longer part of the Competition.
6.2 If a third party makes claims against Jodel because an entry infringes their rights (e.g. copyright, personality rights), section 9 ToS (indemnification) applies.
7. Use of entries
7.1 Jodel's rights of use under sections 3.2 and 3.3 ToS apply to entries. For the avoidance of doubt, they include reposting finalists in the final-vote thread and using entries in Jodel's communication about the Competition, including Jodel's social media channels. Entries are published without the entrant's identity.
8. Voting and winner selection
8.1 Open round (8 Oct – 2 Nov 2026): users upvote the entries they like. Only upvotes count; downvotes are ignored.
8.2 Shortlist: after the open round, Jodel selects 20 finalists. The criteria are the number of upvotes and how well the entry fits the brief (student life, section 5.2). Jodel publishes the finalists in a new thread.
8.3 Final vote (3 – 9 Nov 2026): the finalist with the most upvotes in the final-vote thread wins the "Best Photo" prize for the association named in it.
8.4 Most participants: the association named in the most valid entries by different users wins the "Most Participants" prize. Each user is counted once. Only entries that comply with these terms count.
8.5 In the event of a tie for either prize, Jodel decides the winner at its reasonable discretion, based on the fit with the brief.
8.6 Jodel's decisions on shortlisting and winners are final, without prejudice to statutory rights.
9. Prizes
9.1 Best Photo: EUR 300 plus Jodel merchandise (raccoon keychains) for a sitsit of the winning association.
9.2 Most Participants: EUR 200 plus Jodel merchandise (overall badges) for a sitsit of the winning association.
9.3 One association can win both prizes (up to EUR 500 in total).
9.4 Prizes are awarded exclusively to the student association, never to the individual entrant. Entrants have no claim to a prize.
9.5 The association that benefits from an entry is always the one named by the entrant, never one chosen by Jodel. If an entry does not clearly name an association (e.g. an ambiguous abbreviation), Jodel may ask the entrant to clarify; if this does not resolve the ambiguity in time, the entry does not count towards either prize.
9.6 Prizes cannot be exchanged or transferred to another association.
9.7 Details of the sitsit and the practical arrangements, including how the prize money is paid, are agreed in writing between Jodel and the winning association.
10. Notification and prize claim
10.1 Jodel contacts the winning associations after the final vote via their public contact channels.
10.2 If an association does not respond within 14 days of being contacted, or declines to hold a sitsit, Jodel donates the prize money to MIELI Suomen Mielenterveys ry. The association then has no further claim.
11. Disqualification and manipulation
11.1 Jodel may remove entries that violate these terms or the Community Guidelines and exclude them from the Competition.
11.2 Manipulating the Competition is prohibited, in particular using multiple accounts, purchased or coordinated fake votes or entries, and technical aids. Jodel may disregard affected votes and entries, exclude the entrant and, where an association benefits from manipulation, the association.
11.3 If a violation becomes known only after a prize has been awarded, Jodel may revoke and reclaim the prize.
12. Changes and termination
12.1 Jodel may change, suspend or end the Competition early for good cause, in particular if it cannot be carried out properly for technical or legal reasons or if manipulation is detected. Jodel announces any such change in the Competition thread.
13. Liability
13.1 Section 8 ToS (limitation of liability) applies accordingly.
13.2 Jodel is not responsible for the organisation or course of the sitsit.
14. Data protection
14.1 Jodel is the controller for personal data processed in the Competition.
14.2 For entrants, Jodel processes the user ID, the entry, the association named and the votes cast, to run the Competition, count participants and detect manipulation (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR). Jodel does not publish entrants' identities.
14.3 For winning associations, Jodel processes the name and contact details of the contact person to award the prize and agree on the sitsit (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR). Jodel publishes the names of the winning associations.
14.4 Competition data is deleted after the Competition has ended and the prizes have been handed over, unless statutory retention periods apply. Entries remain in the app in accordance with the normal Jodel rules.
14.5 Further information, including data subject rights, is available in the Jodel Privacy Policy: https://jodel.com/en/privacy-policy/
15. Final provisions
15.1 German law applies (section 17.4 ToS). For consumers, this choice of law does not remove the protection of mandatory provisions of the law of the country of their habitual residence.
15.2 Should individual provisions be invalid, the remaining provisions remain unaffected.
